You can find videos on the YouTube channel, but if pictured step-by-step instructions are more your thing you can find lots of those on their companion website. My kids don’t particularly like that the artist doesn’t explain the steps while drawing, but they have enjoyed some of these and we’ll continue to use it from time to time. There isn’t any talking, but the drawing is “live” so it’s easier to keep up with. So far, we’ve found quite a few tutorials that have been very helpful and fun.

This is one that we found only recently and have been exploring. If you’re ok with that, these are great tutorials. We have to start and stop the video repeatedly in order to keep up. We don’t use this one often because the videos are animated step-by-step instructions and they move pretty fast. You’ll find lots of drawing lessons on the website and the YouTube channel, all of which are free. They are basic, but well made and cover a lot of material. These lessons remind me more of the art classes I had in elementary school. We don’t use this one as often, but it’s great content. You get extra perks as a member which you can read about here. If you really enjoy their instruction and want more you can subscribe to their website for $2.99 per month, or $34.99 per year.

Their YouTube channel features mostly drawing videos though you will find a smattering of how to paint, sculpt, and make origami figures. They have plenty of projects to choose from (over 1000 videos and counting!) and the lessons are so much fun. Hands down, this one is my kids' favorite. They will use in this course pastels, charcoal, colored pencils, Conte crayons, and calligraphy pens. Students will learn to draw still lives, landscapes, interior spaces, portraits, and clothed figures (to learn some basic perspective and anatomy). This course, which is a one year course divided into two parts, teaches both pencil drawing and drawing with other mediums. In this one-semester course, students will analyze art and produce written criticism as they learn about artists and view a wide range of works from the Gothic period through World War II.

Students will study art as they make observations about work by artists from around the world.
